Healthy Bones 2014

Is it for me?

Classes are held for people who are at risk of, or who have had a fall. Classes are suitable for both males and females of all ages and abilities including mobility problems including Osteoporosis, stroke and Parkinson's disease. One member of the class states:-  'We all look forward to the class its very enjoyable and Bronia is great fun.'

"Regular exercise can help you achieve and maintain an ideal weight, which can be important in managing many health conditions, or it may just make you feel happier about your appearance," said Bronia. "Exercise can also dramatically reduce the risks of a heart attack as exercise reduces several cardiovascular risks, including high blood pressure.

"Different exercises can also help with all sorts of health niggles, such as digestion, poor posture and sleeplessness, and physical activity can be beneficial for a range of medical conditions, from diabetes to lower back pain. Being physically active can bolster good mental health and help manage stress, anxiety and even depression

"All the exercise classes I run are evidence based to help strengthen bones and muscles to some degree. The exercises promote bone density and protect against osteoporosis, which affects men as well as women.

Participants also receive benefits such as meeting new people, having fun, building confidence and improving mobility."

Healthy Bones classes are suitable for both males and females of all ages and abilities including those with mobility problems including osteoporosis and Parkinson's disease, as well as those who have suffered a stroke. Classes are also held for people who are at risk of, or who have had a fall.

Said Bronia: "I've been an exercise professional for over 13 years working in the community delivering classes to many different age groups and abilities.

"It's my job to make sure that people are able to live a happy and fulfilling life no matter what their age or physical condition. All the people who regularly attend the classes come to make the best of their fitness and enjoy a cup of tea and a natter too. The social aspect is just as important as the exercise.

"By keeping the classes community based this eliminates some barriers like transport or fear of falling. All the exercises are tailored to the individual and the evidence based exercises are perfect for people who are a little unsteady or unsure of themselves."
